If there is one thing the student of Human History knows, it is the fact that the story of Human History is a story of progress and expansion. One clear example of that is the agricultural revolution. The change from being a species of hunter-gatherers to farmers was a giant leap. With agriculture came surplus of food. With a surplus of food came the opportunity for trade. The opportunity for trade led to the specialization of the work force, which eventually has created our modern economy of highly specialized tasks that no longer directly related to how we obtain our food. All of this was made possible by the advancements made to how we feed ourselves.

The critic of Human History would argue that these changes have not necessarily been positive. They are clearly advancements in technology and knowledge as a species. But, compared to our distant ancestors, are we truly happier now because of the agricultural revelution? In our modern world, anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses plague our species due to the demands and stresses of modern life. Workers spend the entire day figuring out some way to get away with doing as little as possible while still providing for their own needs. Also, since the agricultural revolution, the societies facilities by the existence of a surplus of food have constantly been at war with each other.

People are entitled to their own opinions. However, what you need to know about this important event is that ever since, the progress our species has made has only been exponential ever since society has been formed. Society as we know it has been the greatest accelerator of human progress. One must take advantage of the time we live in, and must find a way to get ahead. It’s only going to get more and more advanced from here.
